11,000 Signatures to City Hall

Photography by Jeanette Nevarez

On March 1st, 2022 Justicia Fronteriza began collecting signatures for 3 propositions for the November 2022 ballot. The propositions seek to democratize and make elections fair for city council and the mayoral race. On August 4th, 2022 Justicia Fronteriza turned in the signatures to City Hall.

The 3 propositions:

1) Limiting campaign contributions to $1,000 per individual per candidate

2) Providing public financing for community candidates who get a certain number of signatures

3) Ranked choice voting, which eliminates run-off elections, the last of which cost the city $750,000

We are incredibly grateful for the hard work of our staff, canvassers, and volunteers, and the many small businesses that supported us on this journey. Next, we wait for the clerk to validate the signatures and for the council to vote.
