Verónica Carbajal Announces Run for City Council, District 2

El Paso, Texas - October 15, 2023

Two years ago, Verónica Carbajal embarked on a mission to bring about progressive change in El Paso by co-founding the political action committee, Justicia Fronteriza. This dynamic initiative had a dual purpose - to elect progressive Democratic candidates at the local level and to drive democracy reforms. In the time since its inception, Verónica has admirably served as the organization's president, leading the charge for positive change in our beloved city.

Under Carbajal's visionary leadership, El Paso has witnessed remarkable progress. Justicia Fronteriza has played a pivotal role in electing progressive leaders to various key positions, including the City Council, Commissioner's Court, and the EPISD school board. Furthermore, the organization has made significant strides in advocating for campaign finance reforms, a crucial step toward a more equitable and transparent democratic process in municipal elections.

Now, with great excitement, we are proud to announce that Verónica Carbajal is taking the next step in her journey to bring positive change to El Paso. She has officially thrown her hat into the ring for the District 2 Special Election, an opportunity to further her dedication to our community.

Verónica Carbajal's priorities reflect a comprehensive vision for the betterment of El Paso. Her platform includes:

  • Standing for fiscal restraint and not increasing the property tax rate, relying more heavily on state, federal, and private funding sources, and ensuring our hard-earned taxes are spent wisely

  • Ensuring all of our neighborhoods are healthy and safe by improving pedestrian safety, addressing vacant buildings, reducing traffic hot spots, and increasing lighting and trees

  • Improving the City’s collaboration with the County, local nonprofits, and federal government in regard to the migrant population

  • Improving city services, including, but not limited to: Streets and transportation projects, Public transportation, Animal Services, Libraries, Museums, Parks, Recycling

  • Improving our air quality, conserving our water, implementing measures to reduce rising temperatures and utility bills, and protecting open spaces

  • Increasing the availability of affordable housing

  • Promoting heritage tourism as economic development

  • Adopting campaign finance reform and limiting the influence of big money in city elections

While her departure from the organization marks the end of an era, we look back on her years of dedicated service with gratitude. Her tireless efforts have been instrumental in driving the progressive change that has reshaped our community.

As she transitions into her new role as a candidate for the District 2 Special Election, we eagerly anticipate her tenure on the City Council. Verónica Carbajal's track record of leadership and her unwavering commitment to El Paso make her a formidable candidate, and we are confident that she will continue to champion the values and principles that have driven Justicia Fronteriza's success.
